OUR TEAM

Managing Editor

Sean Byrne

Sean Byrne helped found Great Doings in 1999, and currently serves as its President & Managing Editor. He started Great Doings to a way to meet people and watched it mushroom into one of Chicago's most popular event calendars.  Sean stays active in the charity community, serving on several junior boards. For reasons that mystify us to this day, Today's Chicago Woman magazine named Sean as one of "Chicago's Most Eligible Singles" in 2004.

Sean can be contacted at sbyrne @ greatdoings.com (remove spaces before sending -- sadly, we have to take this countermeasure to combat spammers)

Contributing Editors

Michael Mace

Michael is new to Chicago, but not to writing about events.  His passions lie in anything musical.  That, along with the slave's wages we here at Great Doings Worldwide HQ affectionately refer to as "compensation," explains why he can often be found playing the sax for spare change on Michigan Avenue.

Michael can be contacted at mmace @ greatdoings.com (remove spaces before sending)

Stephanie Yablonsky

Stephanie is a senior at DePaul whose talented writing, devotion to advancing nature conservation and countless other causes, and passion for Chicago nightlife far outstrip other staffers.  Sadly, so does her sarcasm.

Stephanie can be contacted at syablonsky @ greatdoings.com (remove spaces before sending)

Alexa Hunt

Alexa joined us as an intern and earned a spot on our staff as a Contributing Editor spot with diligent follow-up, an eye for detail and a $50 bribe to senior management.  She is dedicated to the community around her, and works hard to make each day better than the last for everyone she touches.  Except for that shiftless former intern who filed that restraining order: the court said Alexa is not allowed to touch her at all.

(we kid.. the court was not really all that specific...)

Alexa can be contacted at ahunt @ greatdoings.com (remove spaces before sending)

Join Our Team

Have you always wanted to take orders from barely sane, half-illiterate editors with inflated senses of self-importance? If so, boy, do we have the opportunity for you!

Great Doings Media is looking for friendly, organized volunteer writers to serve in our editorial department. Applicants must have good computer and people skills. You will be writing about upcoming special events, new bars and restaurants, charitable organizations and social clubs. In many cases, writers get FREE event tickets and other cool schwag.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Available 5 hours per week
  • A laptop or desktop computer with home internet access

COMPENSATION:

  • "Volunteer" means "unpaid," silly
  • FREE tickets to some of Chicago's best events
  • A sense of satisfaction, knowing you contributed to a site that helps over 600 charities each year
  • The character building that comes with working for barely sane, half-illiterate editors
  • Check with your college or university for possible credit; we work with almost all colleges and universities around the Chicago area
  • Experience with an award-winning media company (sure does look good on a resume)
If you are interested (and, really, after that great description, who wouldn't be?), please call Sean Byrne at (312) 772-2063.
